Children’s Day 2024: Funky Outfits and Funny Games

The theme for World Children’s Day 2024 is “Listen to the Future”, pointing to the importance of prioritizing their needs to ensure a bright future for them and for us. Children are our most valuable stakeholders at Little Caliphs Kalam Khalifah. Everything we do here is for their benefits, inshaAllah.

This was the first year we celebrated World Children’s Day at our kindergarten, so it came as no surprise that each kindergarten went all out! Every branch was decorated according to their selected theme complete with ornaments and props. Some teachers even joined in on the fun! The children had the most fun with the themes.They dressed up in their best attires according to the theme, be it Retro/Vintage, Hawaiian, Cowboy, Fairytale, Princes & Princesses or Kampung People. Everyone looked handsome and beautiful in their colourful costumes!

Besides colourful outfits, the children also had the chance to express themselves through the activities they did: hand-decorated crowns and DIY snacks. They got to be as creative as they wanted to be, putting a piece of their personality into their crowns and snacks. Giving children the outlet to express themselves through creative means is crucial for their emotional development.

Other than craft-based activities, the teachers had also prepared many fun games for the students to play all day on this special occasion. Yes, you read that right! The day was especially curated for the children to have fun. As the English idiom goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Furthermore, games have more beneficial qualities than just being enjoyable. They can encourage children to socialize with their friends, teach them to follow instructions and develop their gross, and fine motor skills.

You might remember these games from your childhood:

• Musical Chair: Students walk around a circle of chairs until the music stops and rush for a seat
• Balloon Tag: Students have a balloon tied to their ankle and they have to pop others’ balloons while protecting their own
• Parachute Game: Several students hold a parachute (kain batik is a good substitute) with a ball in the middle and carry it to the finish line

The kindergartens were filled with loud laughter from all of the children throughout the day. This fun experience surely would be a lasting good memory for them, and a reminder for us that we should be holistic in our approach of educating and raising young children.
