National Day Celebration: Not All Heroes Wear Capes

National Day is all about learning our history and standing together as Malaysians towards a bright future. With the theme of ‘National Heroes’ (Perwira Negara), the students showed up to their kindergartens dressed up as our country’s heroes. Of course we had our mini soldiers, and we also had doctors, nurses, firefighters, teachers and many more! Every day, people of all walks of life work tirelessly towards making sure Malaysia is an independent and peaceful country. So, it is wonderful to see them celebrated by our young citizens.
National Parade
Walking in a parade while singing Merdeka songs and waving the Jalur Gemilang high in the air is probably the moment when we feel the most patriotic as Malaysians. This year, the parade was made more festive with parents joining in on the fun! Our biggest crowd was in Kubang Kerian where three kindergartens paraded together.
Parent’s Involvement
Our parents’ involvement did not just stop there. The day continued with Merdeka-themed competitions including bento box and landmark replica competitions. The students proudly presented what their parents helped prepare for the day and the teachers were in awe with their unwavering dedication.
We are always inspired by the love and care the parents put into their children’s costumes and school projects.
Jalur Gemilang
Craft activities the students did on that day were related to the Jalur Gemilang. These activities not only helped them develop their fine motor skills but also English and Maths. They counted together the lines and points in our national flag. Other than that, they also recapped the colours present in the flag and learned the meaning behind the design.
The Spirit of National Day
The true meaning of celebrating this day is to remember what it takes to achieve and maintain our independence and peace. This will not be possible without the unity and respect we have towards each other regardless of our differences in ethnicity, religion and background.
Islam teaches us to be tolerant and respectful of each other and as Malaysian Muslims, we need to embody this spirit. And this is what was taught to the students during the National Day celebration.
