Career Day 2024: What is Justice and How to Uphold It

The theme for this year’s Career Day is little bit out of the norm, i.e. Law Firm. Certainly at first glance, it is something that might seem a little out of reach for children to understand. However, with the dedication of our guest lawyers and consultants, the students still managed to learn a thing or two about how the justice system works in Malaysia.

The day started with an introduction to the industry by our guest lawyers. They explained about the roles of the justice system, the court, and the different possible career paths, especially as a judge or lawyer. Besides that, the students also learned about the appropriate dress codes for each of them as well as for attending the court. Of course, they already came prepared with their black and white outfits and formal clothes!

It’s not a Little Caliphs Kalam Khalifah event without a little roleplay. After listening to the guest lawyers, the students took part in mock trials. This is to immerse themselves in the roles of a judge, lawyer, plaintiff or defendant in various situations. Because our students are young children, we mainly focused on lighter cases that they could grasp such as theft, bullying and accidents.
After Career Day ended, some students even expressed that they were interested in becoming a lawyer or a judge in the future. More importantly, we hope these students will grow into law-abiding citizens and people who will stand up for justice!

What does children have to do with knowing the law?

One might have this question when learning of our chosen theme. We should remind ourselves that children are one of the most vulnerable groups, and they are highly likely to become victims. Na’uzubillah. Hence, it is important for them to also know their rights as human beings. For example, Lawyer Fahimah, our guest at Kalam Khalifah An-Naim LC Tunjong 1, warned the students about ‘stranger danger’ and taught them what is a ‘safe touch’.

Knowledge is a powerful tool. Children learning about the law and justice system is about their understanding of what can and can’t be done to them as much as it is about what they can and can’t do. May Allah protect our children from evil at all times. Amin.
