Little Caliphs School Trip 2024: Appreciating Cultural Heritage
Little Caliphs Pasir Tumboh recently organised a School Trip to Handicraft Village and Craft Museum in Kota Bharu as part of their extra-curricular activities. This educational trip has given the children an opportunity to learn about batik painting and try it themselves.
Immersing Themselves in Cultural Heritage:
As the children sat in their groups, eagerly waiting for their turn to start painting, they were surrounded by the beautifully handcrafted historical garments. After each pair had received their batik frame and watercolour set, they listened to the clear explanation given by the instructor on how to paint the batik patterns given to them.
Fine Motor Skills:
Painting batik requires fine motor skills as the children were told to colour inside the lines. This repetitive motion of cleaning the brush, picking a colour and painting according to the pattern helps the children build their muscles and train their fine motor skills in order to do things in a detailed and accurate manner.
Beauty of Nature:
The patterns that they were painting were mostly of flora and fauna motifs including butterflies, ladybugs, tulips and roses. Some of the children opted to paint based on real-life examples while some of them preferred to let loose their creative spirits and paint as colourful of a picture as possible. Regardless of their methods, all of the students learned through this activity to appreciate the beauty of nature.
Testing Their Knowledge:
After they were done batik painting and having breakfast, the students sat in their classes and learned about colour separation, plants and insects respectively. They followed that up with going around the compound of the Handicraft Village looking for examples of what they just learned.
The School Trip organised by Little Caliphs Pasir Tumboh to the Handicraft Village and Craft Museum managed to attract the children into appreciating their cultural heritage as well as the beauty of nature. At Little Caliphs, we want our children to grow up with strong appreciation towards their identity and relationship with the world.
